Los Angeles Angels outfielder Vernon Wells missed nearly a month with a groin strain, but he was activated on Tuesday. From Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times:
Vernon Wells Activated From Disabled List
Angels left fielder Vernon Wells, out since May 10 because of a right groin strain, has been activated off the disabled list and is in the starting lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.
In Wells's absence, the Angels used all sorts of left fielders: Reggie Willits, Howie Kendrick, Bobby Abreu, and Alexi Amarista (who was optioned to make room for Wells) all received time in left. More from DiGiovanna:
But with the Angels’ offense struggling -- they’ve scored 12 runs while losing five of the past six games -- Wells will be a welcomed addition to the middle of the order.
A rogue copy editor must have left off "by the Rangers" from the last part of that paragraph.
But maybe that was just a season-starting slump. Either way, the Angels have a lot of reasons to keep playing him. Millions of them, in fact. They might as well find out what they’re dealing with for the next few years.
