Mark Teixeira Injury: X-Rays Are Negative

The official diagnosis on New York Yankees' first baseman Mark Teixeira will have to wait until Wednesday, but the x-rays came back clean, and for now the Yankees are describing the injury as a right knee contusion, according to ESPN New York.

The injury sure sounded bad -- like a coconut hit with an aluminum bat at the bottom of a canyon -- and Teixeira leaving the field with his arms around two grown men who had to help him walk because he couldn’t support his own weight was a pretty discouraging sight. But all of the bones are in place, at least.

Jorge Posada was 0-for-27 against left-handed pitching this year, but he's been on fire as of late, hitting 1-for-1 in his last 1 at-bats, and he'll likely man first base in Teixeira's absence. As of right now, Teixeira is considered day-to-day, but even if he has to go on the 15-day DL, he should still be back in time for the end of this Red Sox/Yankees game, which is proceeding at a typical Red Sox/Yankees pace.
