Mark Teixeira snapped out of a 4-for-24 slump with a pair of home runs against the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday -- a good sign leading into a home stand against the Boston Red Sox. In his first at-bat against Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, though, Teixeira couldn't get out of the way of a 90-mph cutter, and he was drilled in the right knee.
Mark Teixeira Injury: Slugger Leaves Game After Being Plunked In The Knee
Teixeira dropped to the ground immediately, writhing in pain. He was helped off the field, unable to put any weight on the knee, and he’ll have x-rays taken tonight.
Teixeira has made every start in the 2011 season for the Yankees, save for two games. The starters for those two games were Eric Chavez, who is on the disabled list, and Jorge Posada, who has seen his playing time dwindle as he's continued to struggle. Posada was the pinch runner used to replace Teixeira after the injury.
