The Toronto Blue Jays have been getting no production out of their third basemen this year -- five different players have combined for a .188/.247/.304 line. If there was a silver lining for the organization, then, it was that they had Brett Lawrie, a third-base prospect who was absolutely punishing pitchers in the Pacific Coast League:

He is out at least the next 2-3 weeks.Lawrie was expected to join the Blue Jays soon, but he was hit by a pitch in a Triple-A game, and the diagnosis on Wednesday confirms what the Jays feared. Lawrie might have been up sooner, but Toronto was screwing with his service time to save money making sure their prized prospect was ready for the big leagues.
The Blue Jays will continue to playy Jayson Nix at third until Lawrie is readyy.
