Xavier’s Mike Bobinski Named Next NCAA Basketball Selection Committee Head

There’s no selection show for it -- in fact, it gets very little media coverage compared to the blockbuster event it controls -- but the NCAA has chosen the next person to head up its selection committee for March Madness. Xavier’s athletic director Mike Bobinski will get the honor of trying to tease out which team really deserves that 68th place in the tournament and which team should be the NIT front-runner.

The NCAA announced in Indianapolis on Wednesday that Mike Bobinski would succeed Connecticut AD Jeff Hathaway as chairman after the upcoming season and tournament.

Xavier, of course, has gotten into the tournament each of the last half-dozen years. But it can never hurt to get a little extra push from the man at the top, right? (Actually, this can't happen because of the selection committee rules, so there's no reason to think that Bobinski will be involved in the Xavier decision.)
