Jose Reyes Injury: Mets Star Leaves Subway Series Game With ‘Hamstring Issue’

The New York Mets' brightest star in the 2011 season has been resurgent shortstop Jose Reyes, who is having a career year after injury-plagued 2009 and 2010 campaigns. Reyes' new injury could put a damper on that: FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweets that Reyes was removed from the Mets' Subway Series showdown with the Yankees on Saturday with a "hamstring issue." The New York Post's Brian Lewis further notes that Reyes "felt tightness in his left hamstring."

Reyes has been fantastic for the Mets this season. He leads MLB in batting average, hitting .352, and has been a demon on the basepaths, scoring 65 runs and legging out 15 triples in 79 games.

But Reyes has been hobbled by a hamstring injury before. His 2009 campaign was principally derailed by a calf injury in May, but Reyes tore his right hamstring while rehabilitating the calf injury in August, and that injury kept him out for the rest of the 2009 season.

It should be noted that the 2009 injury was to Reyes’ right hamstring, and Saturday’s injury is apparently to his left.
