Rickie Weeks Injury: X-Rays Negative On All-Star’s Ankle

I come bearing good news for Brewers fans, Rickie Weeks fans, and fans of seeing Jamey Carroll stay in Los Angeles alike. Weeks was removed from a game Wednesday night after injuring his left ankle legging out an infield hit. He couldn't put any weight on his left foot leaving the field, but where that seemed like a bad sign, Chris Withers has encouraging words:

X-Rays negative on Rickie Weeks from Mark in our booth right now on . Got a text from Doug Melvin.

So, there’s no break. That’s terrific. Weeks is not yet out of the woods - he could have a pretty bad sprain or a tear of some sort, and he could still have to go on the disabled list - but this news eliminates a few of the really bad scenarios, and it’s still possible that Weeks returns to the lineup in just a matter of days.

Even if Weeks does emerge from this episode relatively unscathed, one can still expect the Brewers to light the phone lines on fire in search of infield help. One of their starting infielders is Yuniesky Betancourt! I know!
