Eric Weddle may not be a household name, but the San Diego Chargers apparently thought well enough of him to make his re-signing one of their first moves since NFL free agency opened. The free safety has reportedly signed a new deal to remain in San Diego. The Indianapolis Colts were supposedly one of six teams also competing for his services.
Eric Weddle Re-Signs With Chargers, Report Says
Since the Chargers drafted Weddle in the second round of the 2007 draft, he has been among the more effective safeties in the league. Despite not starting any games his rookie year, he still managed to combined on 53 tackles and knock down six passes. He broke out with a huge second year, making 127 tackles and starting all 16 games.
Last year he finally earned some recognition outside of San Diego when he was named to the All-Pro second team after combining on 96 tackles, knocking down 10 passes, making two interceptions and even scoring a touchdown.
