Browns Release Jake Delhomme, He Still Wants To Play, Report Says

Jake Delhomme really has not been a very good NFL quarterback for several years. Last year being his worst, as he threw two touchdowns and was intercepted seven times in five appearances for the Cleveland Browns. Now, he's reportedly been released, although he's supposedly hoping to find somewhere else to play.

The 36-year-old burst onto the scene in 2003 when he got his first chance to start on a regular basis, taking over for an ineffective Rodney Peete in the Carolina Panthers' season opener. He went on to have a solid regular season, but really made his mark in the playoffs when he led the Panthers to Super Bowl XXXVIII where they lost to the heavily favored New England Patriots on a last-second field goal.

He remained a regular starter for most of the next five seasons when healthy. From 2004-08, he posted a quarterback rating of at least 82.6 and was even named to the 2005 Pro Bowl.

In 2009, fresh off signing a five-year, $42.5 million contract extension, he suddenly turned ineffective and was pulled from several games. His season ended after he broke his finger, and finished up the year with just eight touchdowns and 18 interceptions in 11 appearances. He was eventually released and then signed a two-year deal with the Browns.
