Rickie Weeks Injury: Brewers Recall Eric Farris To Replace Weeks

Via Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricourt, we learn who will replace the injured Rickie Weeks on Milwaukee’s 25-man roster:

#Brewers GM Doug Melvin confirms on WTMJ radio show this morning that 2B Eric Farris is coming from AAA Nashville to replace injured Weeks.

Farris is a 25-year-old infielder who has played two seasons at Triple-A Nashville with a .663 OPS, so he can’t be considered a long-term answer for Weeks, whose injury sounds as if he might miss considerable time. The Brewers can’t go very long with Craig Counsell, who turns 41 next month and who almost literally cannot hit any more (he has no hits in his last 38 at-bats dating back to June 10).

So the Brewers will likely hit the trade market hard; they have been linked to the DodgersJamey Carroll, according to ESPN.com’s Buster Olney. But Olney also tweets another possibility:

Assuming that the Brewers will begin considering possible options at second base, remember Mariners have Adam Kennedy, too, available.

The Cubs would probably part with Blake DeWitt, who can play second base (and bats lefthanded), if Milwaukee were interested.
