Yankees Vs. Indians Score: Derek Jeter 2-4, Yankees Up 6-0
Five innings into the second game of the New York Yankees series against the Cleveland Indians, and the Derek Jeter ‘3,000 hit watch' is officially back on. After singling and doubling in his first two at-bats, the pinstriped captain finally counted progress in his chase of the milestone for the first time since June 13th. Jeter now sits at 2,996 hits for his career, four away from the hallowed 3,000 mark.
The game itself has turned into a blowout following an early second inning Indian meltdown led by none other than Derek Jeter. The captain's two-run double blew open the game, continuing a Yankee stretch that was capped by a Curtis Granderson two-run homerun.
Granderson followed up that at-bat with another blast off Carlos Carrasco in the top of the 4th, raising the score to 6-0, and sending the Indian starter to the showers early. New York's All-Star outfielder now has 25 homeruns on the season.
C.C. Sabathia is pitching a gem against his former team, perhaps sending a statement to the All-Star committee that snubbed him in the process. The hefty lefty has hurled four innings of four-hit, shutout ball, with five strikeouts.
