The Dallas Cowboys beat the Denver Broncos on a last-minute touchdown pass from QB Stephen McGee, his third touchdown pass of the game and second (almost third) consecutive come from behind victory for the young quarter
Cowboys’ Stephen McGee Looks Sharp In Comeback Win Over Broncos
McGee’s had a lot of different labels since the Cowboys picked him up in the 2009 NFL draft and none of those were “legitimate NFL starter” -- not yet at least. McGee still has work to do but he’s clearly making folks in Dallas take notice of him, especially after Thursday night’s 14-of-24, 208 yard and three touchdown performance against the Broncos.
McGee lead the Cowboys to a touchdown with just seconds remaining -- his second TD pass to Dwayne Harris -- has SB Nation's Blogging The Boys' attention.
Obviously, it’s a pre-season game. But numbers like that should have Cowboys fans perking their ears. Of course, the five-yard hook pass that turned into a 76-yard TD reception by Dwayne Harris drives those numbers up, but even without that TD pass, McGee would have a 131.8 passer rating over the last four drives.
Yeah, he's not Tony Romo but that's OK. You go into a season hoping your quarterback can play all 16 games but realizing 14-15 games may be reality so you do need a competent backup.
Through at least one preseason game, McGee has demonstrated he may have what it takes to be the Cowboys No. 2.
