UFC 136 Fight Card: Josh Gripsi Scratched With Injury, Nam Phan Steps In

Josh Grispi (14-3) has been scratched from a scheduled featherweight bout against Matt Grice (13-4) at UFC 136 due to an undisclosed injury suffered during training camp, according to reports. "The Ultimate Fighter 12" veteran Nam Phan (16-9) will fill the vacated spot. The bout will be held on the night's preliminary card.

Phan faces a precarious position after dropping his only two contests within the UFC -- back-to-back decision losses to Leonard Garcia (which won Fight of the Night) and Mike Brown -- but will seemingly get one last chance due to the exciting nature of his performances. The 28-year-old Vietnamese-American entered into the promotion with his run to the semifinals in "The Ultimate Fighter: Team GSP vs. Team Koscheck," where he competed in the lightweight division.

Grice is back in his second stint under the UFC banner after a failed run at the promotion's lightweight division, during which he compiled a 1-3 record. The 30-year-old dropped his featherweight debut in June, losing to Ricardo Lamas via knockout in the first round of their "UFC on Versus 4" contest. Before the loss, Grice had compiled a four fight win streak outside the UFC -- three of which came by first round finish.

UFC 136 will be held October 8th at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, and is headlined between a pair of title fights. Lightweight champion Frankie Edgar completes his trilogy against challenger Gray Maynard after fighting to a thrilling draw at January's UFC 125. Also, newly christened featherweight Kenny Florian aims to tackle feared champion Jose Aldo from the division's throne.
