Thiago Alcantara hasn't even made 15 appearances for Barcelona yet, but he has no doubt that the Catalans are better than rivals Real Madrid and he has no problem saying as much. The midfielder believes that Barcelona will top Madrid in the Spanish Supercup and then go on to take the league title.
Thiago Alcantara Says Barcelona Sure To Top Real Madrid
“It’s quite simple: I think that Barcelona will win the trophy,” Thiago told Sport. “When you master all defensive and offensive aspects of the game and always enjoy the majority of possession, you’re sitting in pole position to win.”
“We realise that our hard work and typical style of play have led to a lot of success and will continue to play like this. Real Madrid are our biggest rivals and you never want to lose against them. That’s the case now, too.”
Thiago making such a proclamation isn’t quite going out on a limb considering Barcelona have won three La Liga titles and two UEFA Champions League titles in the last three years. The highly-touted midfielder appears ready to start earning some time with the senior team after coming up through their youth system. He was featured heavily in the preseason and played exceptionally, but he will have a tough time getting too many chances on the field with all of Barcelona’s talent about to be added to with the imminent signing of Cesc Fabregas.
The two rivals will play on Sunday at the Bernabeu before the second leg on Wednesday at the Camp Nou in the Supercup before getting ready for matches that matter the following weekend. This will be the sixth and seventh times that the two teams have played in the last 12 months after playing five times last season.
