The Buffalo Bills traded long-time WR Lee Evans to the Baltimore Ravens for a fourth round pick earlier this week and the trade went down like most trades of this nature. Ravens fans were pumped about adding a new threat and Bills fans, who have watched Evans since they drafted him in 2004, thought they didn't get enough compensation for him.
Lee Evans’ Trade Came After Bills Paid Bonus Money
Here’s one more reason Bills fans may not like the move, via Andrew Brandt of NFP:
Money for nothing: prior to trade Lee Evans earned - and was paid - a $1 million roster bonus and $100,000 workout bonus from the Bills.
So that tells us that, at one point, the Bills planned on keeping Evans. The Ravens fourth round pick must have been the highest offer they received if they moved him after paying the bonus.
Despite the money, it’s still probably a decent move for the Bills. They’re likely not competing this year so get something for Evans while you can. (That probably won’t make Bills fans feel any better, though.)
