The Chicago Fire and DC United remain scoreless at the half at Toyota Park, but Bill Hamid's injury may overshadow the strong defensive performance for DC. Chicago controlled the game for the first half hour, with Dominic Oduro providing much of the threats for the Fire, although he could not finish any of his chances. Oduro's first opportunity came in the 9th minute, when he ended up on a breakaway on the right, but his close range shot ended up being saved by Hamid. Oduro then had a better chance on the left in the 14th minute when his shot passed Hamid but bounced harmlessly off the far post. In the 30th minute, Marco Pappa took a free kick in front of goal from about 40 yards that bent into the upper corner, but Bill Hamid made a good save. Finally, in the 43rd minute, Patrick Nyarko sent a short but tricky cross to Oduro, but Oduro's shot went just wide.
Chicago Fire Vs. DC United: Match Scoreless, Hamid Injured At Halftime
Meanwhile, for DC United, they did not have many opportunities in the offensive end until the 34th minute, when Dwayne de Rosario nearly got on the end of a 50/50 ball but was beaten to it by Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson. The other main scoring chance took place in the 42nd minute, when de Rosario had a point blank shot, but it was also saved by Johnson. Then the assistant referee judged de Rosario to be offside, so a goal would not have counted.
With the final kick of the half, however, Hamid went down with an apparent hamstring injury and looked to be in considerable pain. It looks unlikely that he will return for the second half, which would be a big blow for DC’s chances in this match.
