Chone Figgins Injury: Mariners’ 3B Goes On DL
Mariners make roster move putting 3B Chone Figgons on DL with a right hip flexor strain and recalling INF Kyle Seager from AAA Tacoma.
Wow, you know things aren’t going well when your team’s official Twitter feed doesn’t know how to spell your name.
Anyway, do you think Figgons has been suffering this hip probably for the last season and four months? Because that’s how long he’s been unable to hit major-league pitching. The good news is that Figgons is under contract for another two months and two seasons, so he’s got plenty of time to heal. It’s quite possible that Figgons will, sometime during the summer of 2013, show the sorts of talents that got him a four-year, $36 million contract. Shoot, if he gets 600 plate appearances in 2013, his $9 million option will automatically vest. Wouldn’t that be a delightful story?
Kyle Seager debuted with the M’s earlier this season, playing just briefly. He’s sort of a man without a position, but could ultimately become a super-utility player. For now, he figures to get some playing time at third base, when Adam Kennedy’s not over there.
