Not awe-inspiring stuff from either team in the first half, although Arsenal have done well to overcome the early injury to centre half Laurent Koscielny to reestablish themselves in the match. Liverpool have probably had the better of the chances so far, but only Andy Carroll has really managed to test Wojciech Szczesny at all with a bullet header that was destined for the back of the net before Arsene Wenger's young goalkeeper managed to punch clear*. Mostly, Thomas Vermaelen has been able to shut down Carroll's aerial threat.
Arsenal Vs. Liverpool: 0-0 At Half Time
*The save looks less and less impressive the more one watches it.
Arsenal have had their chances as well, with Emmanuel Frimpong forcing Pepe Reina into a diving stop with a long-range effort, but the Gunners look somewhat toothless in attack so far. Robin van Persie is dropping deep to keep the play going, which means he's not around to finish off anything, which is resulting in some unfortunate-looking crosses to nobody from Andrei Arshavin.
So, improvements from both sides are probably necessary at this point. With 45 minutes to go, it’s 0-0 at the Emirates.
