Swansea City started their first-ever home game in the Premier League brightly but ultimately were fortunate to hold out for a point in a tightly fought match against old friend Roberto Martinez's Wigan Athletic. The hosts had a superb chance to take the lead int he opening two minutes when Danny Graham shot straight at Ali Al-Habsi after a loose ball fell to the striker in Wigan's penalty area, but while City dominated possession chances were few and far between against a stout Wigan defence, who were excellent at muffling the threat posed by the newcomers but somewhat less so going forward.
Swansea City Vs. Wigan Athletic: Swans Hold Out For Scoreless Draw
The second half played out differently, with several fantastic chances for the visitors somehow failing to find the back of the net. Jordi Gomez and Victor Moses both beat Michel Vorm only to see their shots bounce straight off the post, but an even better chance presented itself to Ben Watson several minutes later from the penalty spot after Ashley Williams fouled Gomez. Vorm was up to the task though, pushing away at full stretch to deny Wigan and earn Swansea their first points ever in the Premier League.
