Alex Rodriguez Injury: Yankees Third Baseman To Be Activated From DL

New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez, who has been on the DL since July 7 and had surgery on his right knee, will be activated from the disabled list and bat fourth Sunday, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Asked if [manager Joe] Girardi would ease Rodriguez in as the designated hitter against right-hander Nick Blackburn, Girardi left open the option of using him there or at third base. Rodriguez would prefer the latter.

The Yankees will have to make a roster move to make room for A-Rod on the 25-man roster. Sherman speculates that a pitcher might be sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make room, possibly reliever Hector Noesi, although Noesi has been effective for the Yankees this year.

Left-handed reliever Aaron Laffey, whom the Yankees acquired from the Mariners on Friday, and who threw three innings in Saturday’s game against the Twins, has options remaining, according to Sherman, and would be another possibility.
