It's been a poor first half and a truly nightmarish final five minutes in the first half for Fulham, as they now trail Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 thanks to two goals right at the end of the half. Earlier in the period, Mark Schwartzer made one spectacular save on Kevin Doyle while the Irish international missed a sitter, so Wolves could very easily be ahead by a score of 4-0. As it stands, it's only 2-0 but they'll still be very satisfied with their performance.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Vs. Fulham: Halftime, Shambolic Cottagers Trail 2-0
After a solid, if unspectacular round one performance against Aston Villa and a very good mid-week performance in the Europa League, this poor 45 minute period against an average team like Wolves is a bit of a shock. Martin Jol is going to have to make some serious adjustments in his squad to get back into the game. This might prove difficult, as Wolves' problems usually center around a lack of goals, not bad defending.
The opening goal was scored by Doyle, picking up a ball on the ground during a scramble, following a corner kick. He placed a fantastic shot into the roof of the net from a very narrow angle, for which Schwartzer will probably receive some criticism. The second goal didn't reflect well on the Australian international either. After Roger Johnson hit the post with a cross, Schwartzer was caught completely out of position as Matthew Jarvis tapped home the rebound, doubling Wolves' lead.
