Little League World Series Scores: Yonny Hernandez Hits Two Home Runs In Venezuela’s 8-0 Victory Over Canada

The 2011 Little League World Series (LLWS) continued on Sunday and started things off with a bang. The first game of the day was between Venezuela and Canada, which resulted in an 8- victory by Venezuela. Shortstop Yonny Hernandez picked up three hits, including two two-run home runs.

Billings, MT, and Lafayette, La., played a close game, but Montana emerged with the 3-1 victory. Ben Askelson’s two-run double in the third inning put Billings up, 2-0, a lead held for the rest of the game. Lafayette managed to score its run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Ocean View LL of Huntington Beach, Ca., was up by 10 runs against North Oldham of La Grange, Ky., at the end of the fourth inning, prompting the use of the mercy rule. Ocean View scored five runs in the second and five in the fourth inning.

Mexico and Japan needed extra innings to determine a winner in the final game of the night. Tied at two in the bottom of the seventh inning, Mexico came up with three straight singles to score the game-winning run.
