Villarreal Vs. Odense, UEFA Champions League: Halftime, OB Still Ahead On Aggregate

Villarreal have done enough in the first half to get back into their UEFA Champions League playoff tie against Odense...or they should have. As our own Andrew Thomas put it, it feels like it should be 27-0. Instead, Villarreal have not yet managed to score and trail OB 1-0 on aggregate after 45 minutes of play at the Madrigal.

Odense goalkeeper Stefan Wessels has been absolutely magnificent so far, keeping out everything that the Yellow Submarine have thrown at him. Though he hasn’t done anything particularly unbelievable, he’s been in perfect position for shot after shot, and a very average goalkeeper would not have clean sheet at the moment.

Giuseppe Rossi has been far and away the most dangerous player for Villarreal, creating numerous shot opportunities for himself and his teammates. However, as I'm sure you have been able to deduce, those opportunities have not yet resulted in the goal that Villarreal so desperately need.

Even if 0-0 draws aren’t quite your cup of tea, just about anyone who likes football will be, at the very least, slightly amused by the way that Villarreal have come out playing. Their formation is a bit of an odd variation on a 3-4-3 that is not exactly symmetrical. In the second half, Juan Carlos Garrido will invent a new formation that features five wing backs or something along those lines.
