Deep into the second half of the first leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff round tie against Odense, it appeared as if Villarreal would be heading back to the Madrigal with the advantage. A 0-0 result in Denmark would not have been ideal, but it would have at least made them favorites to advance in Spain. Instead, Henrik Andreasen scored in the 84th minute, giving OB a massive 1-0 win and creating a tricky situation for the Yellow Submarine.

Villarreal has to dig themselves out of a hole after a 1-0 loss in Denmark to Odense.
The loss of Santi Carzola to Malaga was always going to hurt Villarreal, but almost all of the core of the team has stuck around. The likes of Giuseppe Rossi, Nilmar, Cani and Carlos Marchena all started the match, so a lack of strength in the squad doesn't excuse the result. They just didn't bring their best game to Denmark.
No one is happy about the current strike in La Liga, but one could make the argument that it seriously benefited Villarreal this year. They will be much fresher on Tuesday night than they would have been if they were forced to play a league match over the weekend, which will help against a very fit Odense team that is currently a few games into their season and starting to find their form.
Villarreal kept the ball well and created shots in the first leg in Denmark, so it would be surprising if they didn’t at least make a game of it at the Madrigal. However, if Odense are able to score first, it could be lights out for the Yellow Submarine.
