When the Rockies traded for Athletics third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff yesterday, there was some question about where Kouzmanoff would play, if only because he's spent the last couple of months with Oakland's triple-A club in Sacramento. Oh, and because he was so terrible before the A's demoted him.

Well, it seems the Rockies might have a new regular third baseman. From the Denver Post’s Troy Renck:

Kouzmamoff here. Will [be] activated. Not sure of corresponding move yet.

Third base has been a black hole for the Rockies all season, with only Ty Wigginton doing anything at all with the stick. Colorado's third basemen rank 25th in the majors in OPS and 30th in batting average, and that's without considering park effects. Kouzmanoff's obviously not a good hitter, but at the moment he's probably the best third baseman in the entire organization. And for a team that still entertains faint hopes of getting back into contention, giving Kouzmanoff a shot is the obvious move.

Update: Kouzmanoff’s in this afternoon’s lineup, batting sixth.
