Victor Martinez of the Tigers was writhing on the ground in pain during Saturday’s game against the Royals after a play near home plate; he had to leave the game with a sprained left knee.
Victor Martinez Injury: Tigers DH Knee Improved After Saturday’s Game
However, after having the knee iced and following the game, Martinez reported the knee felt much better, according to Chris Iott of MLive:
Martinez said the pain started going away before he even got to the clubhouse and that the knee improved a lot by the time the game ended.
“A lot better,” he said. “A lot better than when I went out. I felt a sharp pain. On my way up here (to the clubhouse), I felt the pain going away. I just iced it and I’ll see how it feels tomorrow.”
While Martinez may have felt better, he is not in Sunday’s Tigers lineup for their afternoon game against the Royals, presumably as a precaution. Magglio Ordonez will DH, with Andy Dirks replacing Maggs in right field.
