The rioting in London has forced the postponement of more Carling Cup matches, this time with the matches between Crystal Palace and Crawley Town and the one between Bristol City and Swindon Town being called off. The decisions were made after Crystal Palace and Bristol City, the two home clubs, met with police on Tuesday morning and agreed that the police were better off helping quell the rioting than at the football grounds.
Two More Carling Cup Matches Postponed Due To London Riots
These are the third and fourth Carling Cup matches originally scheduled for Tuesday night to be postponed because of the rioting. Matches between Charlton and Reading and between West Ham and Aldershot were postponed on Monday.
Rioting began in Tottenham, but has since spread throughout the city. At the moment none of the weekend's Premier League fixtures have been postponed, with Tottenham saying on Monday morning that their match against Everton will go on despite the rioting being just a half mile from White Hart Lane.
One match that does appear to be in danger is the friendly between England and the Netherlands scheduled for Wednesday at Wembley Stadium. The FA is due to meet with police officials to make a final determination on whether the match will be played. Of course, football is hardly a priority at a time like this, but it is quite obviously affected.
