San Francisco 49ers WR Michael Crabtree injured his foot during the team's NFL lockout workouts, which were unsupervised by the coaching staff. He hasn't been practicing since starting the 49ers training camp on the PUP list.
Michael Crabtree’s Injury Could Keep Him Out Until Regular Season
It doesn’t appear that Crabtree’s foot injury will be a long-term issue but Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area reports that he may not step into uniform until the regular season opener.
A team source says the club expects Crabtree’s foot to be ready for him to play late in the exhibition season. More than likely, he’ll be held out until the regular season.
The 49ers start the season on Sept. 11 so that’s a little over a month for him to prepare for the regular season opener. At this point, it’s probably best to just hold him out until then instead of rushing it and possibly causing more damage to the injury.
The 49ers will enter the season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, which means some new offensive tweaks. Crabtree has been present at practice throughout his time on the PUP list so, ideally, he’s still learning the offense like the rest of the players.
