Steve Williams Admits Digs Made Toward Tiger Woods Were ‘Over The Top’

If Steve Williams is attempting to apologize for hogging the spotlight from someone who accomplished something significant on Sunday, he’s failing miserably at it. He admitted that his comments about Tiger Woods were ‘over the top,’ but that doesn’t exactly constitute an apology for...well, anything. Williams doesn’t seem to think he was wrong for taking shots at Woods post-Bridgestone Classic, he just thinks the way he did it was ‘over the top.’ Oh, and he still hasn’t apologized for acting like the story when he was not actually playing golf.

Rory McIlroy sums up this issue nicely:

“I definitely think it took away from Adam’s win. It was a phenomenal win, he played unbelievable all week...Adam’s the one hitting the shots. Stevie’s obviously had a good influence on him the last four weeks or whatever it is, but Adam’s the one who ultimately gets the ball in the hole.”

And that’s the problem here. Williams seems to be clueless, as he hasn’t yet shown an awareness of what he’s supposed to be apologizing for.
