Channing Crowder Tells Radio Host: ‘I’m Retiring. I’m Hanging It Up’

Two weeks after the Miami Dolphins released linebacker Channing Crowder, the 27-year-old told a Miami radio sports talk show that he is retiring from the NFL.

The news is a bit shocking considering Crowder's age, his years in the NFL (six) and the fact that he had a workout with the New England Patriots just three days ago. Of course, this could all some kind of manuever on Crowder's part, so stay tuned.

Crowder spent his entire six-year career with the Dolphins after being drafted in 2005 after a successful career at the University of Florida. Crowder made 33 tackles in 11 games last season while missing five games with injuries. He finished his career with 469 tackles.

Crowder's pro career might be remembered more for what happened off the field than what happened on it. He caused a brief stir when he intimated that he sold jerseys to boosters while at Florida. He also got into verbal jousts with Jets coach Rex Ryan and Baltimore Ravens FB Le'Ron McClain.
