Brian Matusz of the Orioles has allowed 15 home runs this season.
Home Runs Galore In Baltimore
You might not think that’s a big deal. But he has accomplished this feat in just 10 starts and 43 innings. Just to give you an idea how big a deal that is, the other seven AL pitchers who have allowed 15 home runs this season have averaged 157.1 innings. His HR rate, 3.1 per nine innings, is the highest in MLB history for anyone with at least 10 starts.
But wait, there’s more.
The understatement of the year in response to this, from Orioles president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail:
“I don’t know that he’s doing us any good or we’re doing him any good [by keeping him in the rotation].”
