NFL Combine: Kendall Wright’s 40-Yard Dash Isn’t So Bad

Baylor Bears wide receiver Kendall Wright did not impress quite as much at the 2012 NFL Combine as did his teammate, quarterback Robert Griffin III. In the 40-yard dash in Indianapolis this past weekend, Griffin clocked in at 4.41 seconds. Although Wright's 4.61 may seem a bit sluggish by comparison, the early indication is that his time has not negatively impacted his value prior to the 2012 NFL Draft.

Charlie Bernstein of ESPN Florida reports that while Wright may have wanted a lower time during the Combine, NFL scouts are well aware of the prospect’s abilities beyond what they saw at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“Kendall Wright plays much faster than he was clocked,” one league source said. “We’re not concerned at all.”

A prominent NFL general manager explained the use of Combine times and Pro Days.

“This is just another piece of information in a grand assessment of a player. We hope to see that the times back up what we see on film,” the GM explained.

Wright will still figure to be a first-round draft pick and one of the top wide receivers in this year’s class, despite the perception that he may have underperformed in Indianapolis.
