Jordan Jefferson’s Draft Grade Isn’t Too Great
It wasn’t a good week for Jordan Jefferson, despite his insistence that he passed whatever test the NFL Combine was with flying colors. Now that the Combine is over, grades and ratings are being handed out, and the former LSU quarterback didn’t fare so well. This all probably doesn’t bode well for his draft stock going forward.
↵How bad was it? Jefferson scored a 44 out of 100 on NFL.com’s scale. Out of the 315 players at the Combine, Jefferson’s rating was the worst.

Getty ImagesThe 2012 NFL Combine is officially over which means that coaches are now busy discussing which players are rising up the draft boards and which ones hurt themselves in Indianapolis this week. This was the biggest job interview in each player’s life as it gave them a chance to show and tell coaches why they’re worthy of a draft pick. Of course, not all the prospects did every drill -- the top three quarterbacks didn’t throw -- but of the ones that did, there were some very clear winners and losers.
Hill, who stands at 6’4, ran an amazing 4.36 40-yard dash proving that he can be an effective deep threat for any team and he also looked impressive in receiving drills. He may not be a first-round guy -- yet -- but depending on his pro day, he can continue to rise after his great combine performance.

Charlie Bernstein of ESPN Florida reports that while Wright may have wanted a lower time during the Combine, NFL scouts are well aware of the prospect’s abilities beyond what they saw at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Wright will still figure to be a first-round draft pick and one of the top wide receivers in this year’s class, despite the perception that he may have underperformed in Indianapolis.

So what did happen in the last week? Robert Griffin III confirmed he’s one of the best athletes in the draft, Dontari Poe looked nimble at 346 pounds and Vontaze Burfict might as well have stayed home. Check out all the results here.

The three players were basically inseparable across all of the combine drills, meaning that Claiborne’s stock isn’t going to change at all. With all measurables virtually equal to his nearest competitors, Claiborne should be the first corner selected in the 2012 NFL Draft. He’s currently No. 4 overall on Mocking The Draft’s board.

Fleming, it should be noted, was the only DB to get at least 20 reps who is really considered a top prospect. Although SB Nation’s latest mock draft does not have him going in the first round, Mocking The Draft does have him rated as the fifth best cornerback prospect. Flemming also finished his four-year college career with some solid numbers during his junior and senior years, making seven interceptions and knocking down 24 passes.
Admittedly, the bench press is probably not the best measurement of a DB’s skills. While strength is obviously a positive trait, most coaches and scouts are probably more interested in speed and agility.

Ever heard of Josh Robinson? Unless you’re a NFL Draft geek, chances are you haven’t. After the University of Central Florida cornerback clocked the fastest time in the 40 at the NFL Combine on Tuesday, that’s likely to change.
So, who is Josh Robinson? Well, he’s not someone SB Nation has picked as going in the first round of our Mock Draft. Mocking The Draft doesn’t even have him ranked in their Top 100 draft prospects and has him as the 17th best prospect at cornerback.

Coples also put down a 31.5” vertical jump, which is about average. Adding that do his 6’6” frame means he can block a lot of passing lanes like he did in the Senior Bowl. Coples recorded an 8’9” jump in the broad jump.
SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft thought Coples looked like more of a 4-3 end than a 3-4 end in his drills.

David Wilson was one of the top running back prospects heading into the NFL combine and was labeled as a potential first-round pick. Though his 40-yard dash time was not stunning, it was certainly above average and in line with what he was expected to do. His performance in some of the other drills was extremely impressive, however. In the 20-yard shuttle, 60-yard shuttle, vertical jump and broad jump, he was among the combine’s top performers at the running back position.

Griffin III alluded that it was simply because he wouldn’t have any chemistry with the players he was throwing to, saying he’d rather help out his own wide receivers during the Baylor pro day, according to the transcription provided by Pro Football Talk.
It’s probably not the answer everyone was hoping for, but it does make sense. It doesn’t hurt that Griffin III was impressive in the drills he did take part in, either.

The 40-yard dash is typically uneventful. Sure, it’s a chance to see athletic freaks barrel down the field at a breakneck pace. But as far as highlights go, there just isn’t much. That is, until Vick Ballard came along.
Ballard ran into a little trouble during his 40, leading to a pretty superb GIF. Yes, Ballard fell over during his 40, but that wasn’t the half of it. On his way down, Ballard also took out one of the timing lasers, putting the cherry on top of this fail sundae.

The defensive backs took to the podium and answered questions from the media at the NFL Combine on Sunday, and this might’ve been the best session yet. Cliff Harris and Janoris Jenkins, each of whom had trouble with the law while at school, actually came out winners, if only for the entertainment value.
A few fun quotes are after the jump.

Robert Griffin III is fast. In fact, he’s very fast, as we were once again reminded on Sunday. Cam Newton, who ran last year, and Andrew Luck: also very quick! The three all ran sub-4.6 40-yard dashes, with Griffin clocking the fastest time.
But this is the NFL combine and things get a little boring between sessions. The NFL Network crew has to do something, and that something typically involves ridiculing Rich Eisen. We know Eisen is not fast, as evidenced by his annual running of the 40, but he is excellent for some entertainment.
