The 2012 NFL Combine has come and gone, but there is one last opportunity for pro teams to get a first-hand look at prospects prior to the 2012 NFL Draft. Individual schools hold a “Pro Day” where scouts and evaluators are invited to watch players work out on their home field.
Miami Pro Day Features Several Future NFL Draft Picks

Aaron Wilson at Scout.com reports that the Miami Hurricanes held their Pro Day this week. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was in attendance, as was Butch Davis, a Tampa Bay Buccaneers employee who once served as coach for the Hurricanes. There were also plenty of former Miami players watching the workout. All told, 66 scouts from the AFL and CFL attended the Pro Day.
Here are some of the results from the workout, courtesy of Scout.com:
Quarterback Jacory Harris boosted his cause with a strong throwing session, and defensive end Oliver Vernon ran the 40-yard dash in 4.68 seconds.
Vernon improved his time from 4.80 seconds at the NFL scouting combine.
Offensive lineman Brandon Washington ran a 5.07 after running a 5.1 in Indianapolis.
Defensive back Lee Chambers registerd a 40 1/2 inch vertical leap and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.41 seconds.
Former Miami wide receiver Aldarius Johnson, who was dismissed from the team last season, ran a 4.40 and a 4.44. He spoke with Tomlin and multiple teams after the workout.
He posted a 9-4 broad jump and a 32 1/2 inch vertical leap.
Linebacker Sean Spence didn't take part in the bench press after pumping out only 12 reps of 225 pounds at the scouting combine, but indicated that he had a bone bruise in his left shoulder suffered during the Senior Bowl and usually does 19 reps.
Running back Lamar Miller stood on his 4.40 time at the combine, fastest among the backs in Indianapolis.
Lee Chambers posted a 40 1/2 inch vertical leap and a 4.41 time.
LaRon Byrd ran a 4.46 and Ben Bruneau ran a 4.49.
Bethune-Cookman outside linebacker-defensive end Ryan Davis ran a 4.79. The MEAC Defensive Player of the Year and All-American selection posted a 35-inch vertical leap, a 9-6 broad jump and weighed in at 259 pounds.
It seems as though there is no shortage of interest in Miami players. Perhaps the Pro Day results will translate to increased value for the players entering the Draft.
