Andrew Luck Will Be No. 1 Pick In 2012 NFL Draft, Colts Confirm

Andrew Luck will go No. 1 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Indianapolis Colts general manager Ryan Grigson confirmed Tuesday. The news should come as a surprise to no one at this point, as Luck has been touted as the top prospect in this year's draft class since before his senior season with the Stanford Cardinal. Grigson spoke to reporters Tuesday to break the news.

“In fairness to Andrew Luck and in fairness to the whole process - the media gantlet he’s going to be enduring the next couple days - I thought it was the right thing to do to announce that we’re going to take him,” said Grigson.

“I didn’t see the point in prolonging what the world already knows.”

New Colts head coach Chuck Pagano also commented, saying he would sleep better safely knowing that Luck will be joining the team next season.

“We’ve got a great one for years to come,” Pagano said. “It’s another piece of the puzzle that we feel really good about, obviously.”

Attention now turns to the No. 2 overall pick in Thursday's first round, where the Washington Redskins are expected to select Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III.
