2012 NFL Draft: Round 4 Coverage

The 4th round of the draft is all about depth. Teams select the players they think can eventually step in and become starters or at least useful role players that specialize in one situation or another. Occasionally, teams find a jewel in the 4th round.

132. Green Bay Packers: Iowa DT Mike Daniels, 6’, 291 pounds

122. New Orleans Saints: Wisconsin WR Nick Toon, 6’2”, 215 pounds

Boykin is just 5 feet 10, making him undersized for the position, but Mocking the Draft isn’t counting out the possibility of success for the former Bulldog:

116. Cincinnati Bengals: Georgia TE Orson Charles, 6’2, 251 pounds

Mocking The Draft on Charles:

In 2010, the Florida Gators had 10 players selected in the NFL Draft, including three in the first round and three in the second. In 2011, the Gators had four players selected, including two in the first two rounds. This year? The cupboard is bare, folks.

112. Arizona Cardinals: Mississippi OT Bobby Massie, 6’6, 316 pounds

Here is what Mocking the Draft had to say about the 6-foot-3, 330-pound Ta’amu:

110: San Diego Chagers: Louisiana-Lafayette TE Ladarius Green, 6’6”, 238 pounds

The Steelers could’ve taken Ta’Amu in the third round and there would not have been any complaints. Pittsburgh is one of the best drafting teams in the NFL so it won’t surprise me one bit if this pick works out well.

101. Denver Broncos: Arizona State CB Omar Bolden, 5’10, 202 pounds.

102. Washington Redskins: Michigan State QB Kirk Cousins, 6’3, 214 pounds.

The Carolina Panthers traded up in the 4th round of the 2012 NFL Draft to select Oklahoma DE Frank Alexander. The Panthers gave up their 2013 3rd round pick in order to acquire the San Francisco 49ers 4th round pick this year.

This is a great move for the 49ers, who move up a round next year to give up this pick. That’s a good strategy that Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots often employ. It allows for more flexibility down the road.

96. St. Louis Rams: Wake Forest WR Chris Givens, 5’11, 198 pounds

97. Miami Dolphins (trade with 49ers): Miami RB Lamar Miller, 5’11, 211 pounds

The target for the Dolphins is Miami RB Lamar Miller, who is the best player still on the board, according to SB Nation’s NFL Draft blog, Mocking The Draft. Miller was considered a 2nd round value by some so this is a solid pick.

We are now three rounds down in the 2012 NFL Draft. The 1st round came and went on Thursday night and two more rounds were completed on Friday night. Rounds 4-7 come on Saturday afternoon.
