Broncos Get Rookie Derek Wolfe Under Contract, According To Report

Rookie defensive tackle Derek Wolfe signed a four-year deal with the Denver Broncos on Monday, the Denver Post reports. Wolfe was selected with the Broncos' first pick of the 2012 NFL Draft at 36th overall out of Cincinnati. His new contract is worth $5.2 million, with $3.2 million guaranteed.

Wolfe has to sit out all three of the Broncos’ OTAs, though it’s not his fault. According to NFL rules, players can’t begin workouts until their their college class has completed graduation. Cincinnati’s senior class of 2012 doesn’t complete its graduation ceremony until June 9. Wolfe will be able to join the Broncos for the team’s final offseason minicamp, which is June 12-14.

Wolf racked up 70 tackles last season with the Bearcats, including a career high 9.5 sacks. He has the versatility to play defensive end, giving an already stout Broncos front seven some useful flexibility.
