Justin Blackmon, Jaguars Agree To A Deal

SB Nation’s Big Cat Country reports the Jaguars were seeking future protection in the contract in the instance Blackmon encounters more off the field issues down the road.

There are a couple of different camps when it comes to how Poe will do in the NFL. One side says he did little at Memphis and there’s not much of a reason to think that will change when he moves into a league with better competition. Johnson played his college ball for the Montana Grizzlies and started all four years at cornerback for his team. At 6 feet 3 and 210 pounds, Johnson is certainly in the mold of the bigger cornerbacks the league has seen emerge of the last several years, but it is certainly possible he could transition to safety given his size.

Johnson was the second pick of the third round, No. 65 overall.

The contract is reportedly a four-year deal worth $5 million, with $3.1 million guaranteed. The guaranteed money, Thomas reports, is the highest percentage increase for any second-rounder this year over 2011 second-rounders. This deal comes nearly a week after similar terms were leaked to the public, a deal Jenkins’ agent did not want to take. There was also a dispute over the Rams choosing a financial advisor for Jenkins, which would have violated the collective bargaining agreement had they gone through with it.

Jenkins went No. 39 overall to the Rams in April, having had the talent to be a first-round pick, but off-field issues caused some concerns. He had two drug-related arrests while with the Florida Gators and finished his career at North Alabama.

Richardson, the No. 3 pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, got a four-year deal with $20 million of guaranteed money and a signing bonus north of $13 million, according to Mortensen, which is in line with the lower numbers for rookies in the post-CBA economy. With the signing, the Steelers now have all of their rookies under contract. That’s no doubt a relief for fans with training camp set to begin Wednesday. Adam Caplan reports that 23 rookies remain unsigned, eight of them first round picks.

DeCastro was a first-team All Pac-12 selection in 2010 and 2011. He was also a unanimous All-American last season. He decided to forego his senior year to enter the NFL Draft.

Selected at No. 23 out of Iowa, the 2011 All-American and All-Big Ten player was evaluated as one of the best linemen in a very deep 2012 NFL Draft.

The Lions’ official team blog reports that Reiff will be at the Lions’ training camp on Friday. He is expected to compete for a starting tackle position.

Barron was selected with the No. 7 overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft this past April after earning All-American honors with the Alabama Crimson Tide in his last two seasons.

News of the deal comes less than an hour after Colts owner Jim Irsay urged his Twitter followers not to worry about the team getting Luck signed in time for training camp.

The deal is a four-year contract with a fifth-year option, standard for first-round picks in under the new CBA. Chappell also reported that the deal is worth approximately $22 million with a $14.5 million signing bonus.

Hightower was a consensus All-American during his senior season with the Crimson Tide. He recorded 83 total tackles with four sacks while leading the Tide to a national title. Hightower should help shore up a New England defense that ranked 31st in the league in total defense, and 24th allowing 4.6 yards per carry on the ground.

The details of Hightower’s new contract have not yet been disclosed.

Jenkins has had a slow start to his NFL career with some ups and downs at the 49ers offseason program. But he has the opportunity to turn it on at training camp next month.

The latest depth chart prediction from SB Nation’s Niners Nation has Jenkins low on the receiver depth chart.

Mercilus had an extremely productive college career and is expected to be a contributor, though not an every down player, right away for Houston. Head coach Gary Kubiak spoke about his minicamp performance in the Texans’ release regarding Mercilus’ signing.

Last year at Illinois, Mercilus racked up an impressive 16 sacks and an incredible nine forced fumbles. He was a defensive end in college, but will play outside linebacker in the NFL.

Quick comes from Appalachian State, which isn’t exactly known for producing NFL stars, but head coach Jeff Fisher was impressed when watching him work out, as he said during the draft:
