The days of draft picks signing their rookie contracts in late July or early August are over. The NFL’s rookie wage scale has brought some sanity to rookie contracts and it’s also taken out any of the drama. Just two weeks after the 2012 NFL Draft has concluded, we have a first round pick who has agreed to terms.
1st Round Pick Bruce Irvin Agrees To Contract With Seattle Seahawks
According to multiple reports, former West Virginia linebacker Bruce irvin, who was picked 15th overall by the Seattle Seahawks, has agreed to terms on his rookie contracts. It's a four-year contract.
Rookie draft picks will start to pick up this week, which is significantly earlier than we’re used to seeing. Before the rookie wage scale, which was implemented after the 2011 NFL Draft, players selected high in the draft wouldn’t agree to terms on their rookie contract until closer to training camp in August. Now they’re completing contracts in May.
