Bucs Get 1st Round Pick Doug Martin Under Contract

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are down to their last draft pick signing. After the team announced 1st round pick Doug Martin, they are now just waiting on safety Mark Barron to sign. Martin, the former Boise State running back, agreed to terms on Monday morning.

Martin can expect a heavy dose of playing time early in his Bucs career. New head coach Greg Schiano plans to rely heavily on the rushing attack, as the Bucs release on Martin’s signing notes.

Martin will be in camp on time, and that's good news for the Buccaneers, who intend to utilize him heavily in their 2012 offense. New Head Coach Greg Schiano intends to emphasize the running game, and the addition of Martin to a backfield that already featured LeGarrette Blount could create a very powerful 1-2 punch.

Martin was very productive at Boise State rushing for 3,431 yards and 43 touchdowns in his career. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry while in college. In his senior season, he ran for 1,299 yards and 16 touchdowns and was named MVP of the 2011 Maaco Bowl.
