Calvin Johnson, Lions Off To Good Start In Contract Negotiations

Signing Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson to a new contract is a priority for the Lions this offseason and according to a report by John Kreger of CBS.

Team president Tom Lewand, who controls Detroit’s salary cap compliance, says the team has had positive negotiations with WR Calvin Johnson over a contract extension. “(Johnson’s) got a good relationship with Matthew (Stafford),” Lewand told WBBL radio. “There’s a desire to keep that (relationship) together. When that desire exists, you can get deals done.”

Johnson has been fantastic for the Lions since entering the league in 2007. Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald's 8-year, $120 million contract signed last summer makes him NFL's highest paid receiver for the moment. Johnson is projected to make $14 million during the 2012-13 season. Johnson is coming off the best season of his career, hauling in 96 receptions for 1,681 yards and 16 touchdown receptions.
