Calvin Johnson, Lions Agree To 7-Year Extension

Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions are expected to announce at a Wednesday press conference that the two sides have agreed to a longterm contract extension. The Lions official site reports it's a seven-year extension and a press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET). He had one year remaining on his deal so this would keep him under contract through the 2019 season.

It's going to be very interesting to see the details of Johnson's deal. He's clearly one of the two or three best receivers in the game and his deal could rival the eight-year, $128.5 million deal Larry Fitzgerald received from the Arizona Cardinals. Tim Twentyman of the Lions official site reports Johnson's deal could hit $130 million, which would surpass Fitzgerald's deal.

Johnson is coming off a huge year in which he caught 96 passes for a league-leading 1,681 yards. He also had 16 touchdowns this year, which puts his two year total at 28 touchdowns. He’s clearly worth the money Detroit will pay him.
