Kamerion Wimbley To Be Released By Raiders On Friday, According To Report

The Oakland Raiders have had major salary cap issues this offseason, which has resulted in several players being shown the door, including TE Kevin Boss and CB Stanford Routt. According to NFL Network's Michael Lombardi, Kamerion Wimbley will soon be joining them.

Lombardi reports the Raiders will release Wimbley on Friday. This move has been speculated for a while now because Wimbley is due $11 million in 2012 and 2013. The Raiders would have trouble fitting him under their salary cap.

Wimbley signed a reported five-year, $48 million deal just last August.

There will be plenty of interest in Wimbley, who probably becomes the best pass rusher on the open market. Many around the league predicted this move so it’s possible some teams have been holding back in free agency in order to make a run at Wimbley.

Wimbley was the Cleveland Browns' first-round pick in the 2006 NFL draft. He spent the first four years of his career in Cleveland before playing the last two in Oakland.
