Brandon Jacobs and the New York Giants are breaking up. Mike Garafolo of the Star-Ledger reports the Giants plan to release Jacobs on Friday after the two sides failed to come to a financial agreement.
Brandon Jacobs Cut By The Giants
Brandon Jacobs and the Giants couldn’t come to an agreement on a pay cut and the two sides will part ways.
Jacobs was due nearly $5 million in 2012 and it was widely reported that he would need to take a pay cut to stay in New York. Jacobs reportedly was willing to take a pay cut but apparently not as much as the Giants were asking. The result will be Jacobs hitting the free agent market. As a vested veteran, Jacobs immediately becomes a free agent upon release.
Jacobs came to the Giants in the fourth round of the 2005 NFL draft. He was terrific in the Giants 2007 Super Bowl season and the year after as well gaining 1,000 yards each season.
Jacobs has seen decreasing carries in each of the last four seasons. He’ll get an opportunity some place but he’s also turning 30 years old before next season. There’s some wear and tear there.
