Bartolo Colon Signs One-Year Deal With A’s, According To Report
Colon returned from a one-year hiatus from MLB action in 2011 as a valuable member of the New York Yankees' rotation. He made 26 starts and threw 164.1 innings for the Yankees, his highest numbers in either category since his excellent 2005 AL Cy Young campaign with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. And despite his 8-10 record, Colon had a season more consistent with the early years of his career than with the expectations for a 38-year-old pitcher with some weight issues.
But the Yankees have worked to shore up their rotation, acquiring Michael Pineda and Hiroki Kuroda, and made re-signing Colon a luxury at best. And so it seems Colon is Oakland-bound, where he will be the elder statesman of a staff full of young arms — Rich Harden, at 29, was the oldest of Oakland's full-time starters in 2011.
