Texas vs. Baylor: David Ash has broken wrist, according to report

Texas quarterback David Ash reportedly suffered a fractured wrist during the Longhorns’ loss to Oklahoma.

The Texas Longhorns were blown out, 63-21, by Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry Saturday, and that may not be the worst news. Starting quarterback David Ash reportedly suffered a fractured wrist during the loss:

The length of his recovery time depends on the severity of the fracture, with a top end of several months, though it’s conceivable that he could return to action prior to full recovery by wearing a cast on that non-throwing hand, depending on his ability to protect the football in the pocket and to handle it on running plays.

Ash was injured during the second half when he planted his left hand to break a fall. It was immediately clear that Ash was in severe pain and had likely suffered a significant injury. Orangebloods.com was the first media outlet to report Ash’s wrist as fractured.

Before leaving the game, Ash was 13 of 29 for 113 yards and two interceptions. Backup Case McCoy came on in relief and completed 5 of 8 passes for 102 yards and two touchdowns. McCoy will likely start for the Longhorns as long as Ash is sidelined.

Ash is 120 of 167 for 1,389 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions in 2012. His 231.5 yards per game ranks fifth among Big 12 quarterbacks.
