Packers vs. Texans game recap: Aaron Rodgers leads Green Bay to 42-24 blowout win

After a slow start to the season, Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay offense exploded for 42 points against the previously-unbeaten Houston Texans.

Aaron Rodgers threw six touchdown passes and the Green Bay Packers blew out the previously-undefeated Houston Texans, 42-24.

Rodgers had it going all night, connecting with Jordy Nelson on a 41-yard touchdown pass less than four minutes into the game. It was the first of six scoring tosses for Rodgers, three of which went to Nelson. Rodgers hit James Jones for a 6-yard touchdown just before the end of the first quarter to put Green Bay up 14-0.

Arian Foster scored to bring Houston within a touchdown, but Rodgers had a quick answer, hitting Nelson for the second time. Green Bay led, 21-10, at halftime and the second half was more of the same. Nelson scored his third touchdown to open the scoring in the third quarter. Foster's second touchdown of the game cut the Packers lead to 28-17, but the fourth quarter was all Rodgers. He connected on his fifth touchdown pass just six seconds into the final quarter then topped it off with his sixth touchdown just over two minutes later.

Rodgers completed 24 of 37 passes for 338 yards and six touchdowns. Nelson was the biggest beneficiary, catching nine passes for 121 yards and three scores. The Packers also had some success on the ground and finished with 427 total yards.

After playing well in the first five games of the season, the Houston defense got shredded on Sunday, allowing a season-high 42 points. The Texans offense also struggled to keep pace, with Matt Schaub throwing for just 232 yards while being intercepted twice. Foster ran for a season-low 29 yards and was largely ineffective.

With the win, the Packers moved to 3-3 on the season while the Texans fell from the ranks of the undefeated and are now 5-1.

Rodgers and the Packers receivers led the way. Rodgers threw for 338 yards and six touchdowns. Jordy Nelson caught nine passes for 121 yards and three touchdowns while James Jones hauled in just three passes for 33 yards, but scored on two of those catches.

Arian Foster gained just 29 rushing yards, but scored two touchdowns. Matt Schaub failed to throw a touchdown and finished with 232 yards and two interceptions.

Injury report

Packers linebackers Nick Perry and D.J. Smith left the game separately with apparent knee injuries. Neither player returned to the game and their further status is unknown.
