Pablo Sandoval named World Series MVP

The slugger’s three-homer performance in Game 1 highlights his World Series accomplishments.

Pablo Sandoval, whose batting heroics helped kick off the Fall Classic, was named World Series MVP Sunday, following San Francisco's four-game sweep of Detroit.

Sandoval, nicknamed "Kung Fu Panda," went 8-for-16 in the series, with three homers, a double, and four RBI. It's a marked improvement from his performance on the 2010 champion Giants; Panda only had three plate appearances in the series.

The slugger's biggest moments came in Game 1, when he joined Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and Albert Pujols as the only players to hit three homers in a Series game. Ruth accomplished the feat twice, in 1926 and 1928.

During the series, Sandoval set a franchise record for the most postseason hits. After the game, Panda was and presented with a trophy and a 437 Corvette convertible for his MVP effort.

This championship has brought a lifetime of memories for the third baseman. “It’s just an incredible moment you’re never going to forget,” Sandoval said.
