The New York Knicks had a bit of a scare in the first half when Carmelo Anthony came up limping slightly. However, his play in the third quarter was enough to ease the minds of Knicks fans. Anthony came out shooting right away and instantly started draining jump shots. His 17 points in the third quarter gave him 27 for the game -- and powered the Knicks to a 78-77 lead heading into the fourth.
Knicks vs. Lakers: Carmelo Anthony starring in third quarter
The New York Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers are locked in a tough game through three quarters. The third quarter was basically the Carmelo Anthony show, as he piled up 17 points in the period.
By attacking Metta World Peace off the catch, Anthony found space and buried jumpers. He pulled up in transition and hit some deep three-pointers. His insanely hot shooting led to a somewhat strange three-pointer celebration.
But Melo didn't have to carry the scoring load all by himself. J.R. Smith provided similarly hot shooting as he poured in 20 points through the first three quarters.
The Lakers managed to keep pace thanks to a superb effort from Metta World Peace and some Steve Nash wizardry. Oh, and that Kobe Bryant guy is pretty good and has 26 points.
