Rafael Nadal announced on Wednesday morning that he’ll be forced to withdraw from playing in the 2012 U.S. Open, just a couple of weeks after having to skip the London Olympics in an attempt to heal up from a knee injury suffered during play at this year’s tournament in Wimbledon.
Rafael Nadal Withdraws From 2012 U.S. Open
Rafael Nadal will miss the 2012 U.S. Open with the same knee injury that forced him to miss the 2012 London Olympics. The Spanish tennis star originally injured his knee at Wimbledon.
The Spanish tennis star missed this past weekend’s Cincinnati Open with hopes that he might be healthy enough to play in the next big major, but Nadal announced on Twitter Wednesday morning that he’ll also miss the upcoming U.S. Open.

Nadal has had solid success at Flushing Meadows over the past couple of years -- he won in 2010 and took second place to Novak Djokovic in 2011 -- so it’s definitely difficult to find out that he’ll have to miss this year’s attempt to reclaim his status as reigning champion.
